I recently had a chance to learn about a real ranch house that was remodelled not too long ago. I loved hearing about the history of the house, which was one of many things that I learned about when a friend took me to visit his family's ranch. From the moment we arrived, there were so many impressive things that I was like a kid taking it all in! From the expanse of the terrain down to the details of the business, such as a livestock scale, there was so much to learn about that I could hardly contain the flood of questions that came to my mind. The open skies were breathtaking, the livestock was fascinating, and the work involved was intriguing. While we walked around the fences of some corrals, I listened to his father explain how the ranch had been in the family for generations. That was one of my favorite parts to hear about. The ranch house had recently been remodelled and I really appreciated how they were able to update without taking away what came across as an authentic feel of how and why the house had originally come to be. It had started out with a lot fewer rooms, of course, back in the day, but as the house expanded with the generations, the fundamental look was maintained by the use of logs and stones and by a tasteful incorporation of modern technology that enhanced rather than detracted from the rustic overall appearance. I really enjoyed being introduced into this fascinating ranch world!…and I've already been invited back, with my friend's father saying he enjoyed my questions, especially the one about whether my weight would register on the livestock scale!
