Renovations To close Down Boonton Library For Most Of 2013

Boonton Holmes Library will close for most of 2013 for renovations. The library director, Sam Pharo, informed the Board of Alderman that the renovations will comprise of structural work to improve the load bearing capacity of the first floor. According to Pharo, currently the first floor can currently bear a weight of 15 pounds per square inch and the renovations are expected this load bearing capacity to100 pounds. The Director expects estimates to cover costs related to the renovations to be around $300,000.

Funds are being generated in the form of a grant of $246,360 donated by Morris County historic Preservation Trust Fund, meeting four-fifth of the cost of renovations. A bequest of $107,895, from the estate Helen Dixon Kunzelman, a Boonton resident, will be used to get the rest of the cost in the form of grant.

The Town Library has been in existence for the past 117 years and the restoration work would help the library to keep up with changing technology. E book registrations were now on the rise with a 1000 percent increase. Moreover as buying books electronically are still expensive, people go for renting e-books. The library is also a member of the library consortium Morris Automated Information Network which enables members to borrow books from across the country at their local library.
